The Companionship Crochet program at Knots for NICU pairs student volunteers with elder members of the community to spend time crocheting, knitting, or just sharing stories with each other. This monthly Saturday community outreach program brings a group of local high school students to nearby assisted living/nursing homes to promote "connected living" through making items together for babies in the NICU. Students both teach and learn from elderly residents to crochet or knit beanie hats, headbands, and blankets. Bridging the generations not only ensures the continuity of sewing and crafting skills pass from the older generations to the younger generations, but the collective works are donated to babies in the NICU.
